Pauw 'a victim of gender bias'

ACCUSATIONS against Ireland women's manager Vera Pauw are down to discriminatory gender bias, her lawyer claimed.

Findings were made against Pauw in a 2022 investigation within America's National Women's Soccer League after her 2018 stint as Houston Dash boss.

Some of the issues were repeated this week in a sports publication - prompting her US lawyer Thomas Newkirk to defend her.

He said yesterday: "Vera has rejected the accusations fully and completely and would do so again."

Mr Newkirk claimed his role is to highlight how "gender bias" results in negative reports.

He said: "Gender bias causes athletes to report negative behaviour of a female coach differently than they would report it if she was a male.
