Race 'should have been stopped after 2 deaths'

A WOMAN whose husband died participating in an adventure race said the recent tragic Ironman should have been cancelled after two competitors died.

Carl Dempsey, of Kilma canogue, Co Wicklow, was taking part in the Gaelforce race on Maamturk mountain when he took ill. He received medical aid at the Connemara event on September 11, 2021, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

His wife Lorraine Dempsey told the Opinion Line, on Cork’s 96FM, she was sad to hear about the passing of Meath native Brendan Wall, 44, and 64-year-old Canadian Ivan Chittenden.
