AUGUSTE Rodin rewrote the history books when justifying 4/11 favouritism in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh.
The Deep Impact colt gave Aidan O'Brien his 15th success in the race and, more significantly, his 100th European classic.
He became the 19th colt to complete the Epsom/Curragh Derby double, the fifth trained by O'Brien, and he also provided Ryan Moore with his first Irish Derby triumph.
In a race marred by a fatal injury to Auguste Rodin's stable-companion San Antonio (rider Wayne Lordan was reportedly concussed and removed to Tallaght Hospital for further assessment) half a mile from the finish, it was another case of Ballydoyle dominatio as the first four home were all trained by O'Brien.
Following San Antonio's ugly exit, Moore moved the favourite to challenge frontrunning stable-companion Adelaide River.
