Mcllroy fires a sizzling 65 and says Ryder Cup stars are in great shape for Italian showpiece

RORY MCILROY insisted the Ryder Cup team were ready for Rome despite Kiwi Ryan Fox beating the best in Europe to win the BMW PGA.

Talisman McIlroy shot a best-of-theday 65 to finish among the seven of Luke Donald's team in the top 10.

Tyrrell Hatton carded eight birdies in his 66 to finish tied for second with Aaron Rai while Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland and Tommy Fleetwood also showed form in their last tournament before facing the USA on September 29.

Team Europe fly to the Italian capital a week today on a mission to reclaim the Ryder Cup. And McIlroy said: "We're in a good spot.
