SCANDALOUS

A YOUNG couple have been left homeless for the last two weeks because there is no emergency accommodation left in Co Meath.

The two 20-year-olds had been sleeping under the entrance to an apartment block in Navan town centre until a local councillor let them sleep in his van over the weekend.

The pair were thrown on the streets after being told by Meath County Council housing officials that the local authority had no emergency accommodation beds available.

However, one politician did find a Bed and Breakfast for them to stay in nearby Trim but the council then refused to pay for it.

Now furious independent Meath councillor Alan Lawes has demanded a national review of the emergency accommodation system run by the local authorities.
