Scientists uncover the genes behind animal 'virgin births'

SCIENTISTS have discovered how to genetically engineer virgin births in animals.

The team is the first to create animals where an egg develops into an embryo without fertilisation by sperm.

They altered genes in female fruit flies so they could almost clone themselves and reproduce without fathers.
