JACK CROWLEY insists that Johnny Sexton’s stranglehold on Ireland’s No.10 jersey has inspired – not deterred – other hopefuls.
The 23-year-old has grown up watching Sexton dominate the pivotal position for his country.
At France 2023, the exciting Munster fly-half is vying with Ross Byrne to be the Leinster star’s backup.
But it is Crowley who seems more likely to play a bench role against world champions South Africa at the Stade de France on Saturday because of his greater versatility.
However, when asked about the ‘block’ Sexton had put on the position for so long and if he could sense a chance opening up to take on the role, Crowley was adamant.
Sexton, 38, is retiring after the finals, but Crowley said: “I think he’s not blocked it, but opened it up to show the possibilities that are capable.
