Downpours & hailstones warning as hot weather to remain for the weekend

Sunder storms!

HOT temperatures will stay for the weekend but the recent sunny drought will be replaced over the coming days by downpours and even hailstones.

The shock forecast for hail amid 27C readings was delivered by Met Eireann last night as it warned of thunderstorms and lightning across the country.

Rising temperatures are causing the intense weather, resulting in difficult travel conditions and spot flooding and "very high" pollen counts for hay fever sufferers.

Daytime temperatures mean high UV levels and night-time highs of 16C will create muggy conditions and make sleep difficult in some areas. Presenter Nuala Carey said yesterday was "shaping up to be the hottest day of the year so far, up to 26C or 27C with very little breeze".
