TRIBUTES have been paid to a mother-of-two who died after trying to rescue her son who got into difficulty swimming. 

Joanna Wisniowska rushed into the sea to help her 10-year-old child shortly before 1pm on Sunday.

The boy managed to make his way on to rocks on the shore off Ballycroneen beach in East Cork.

However, Joanna, 34, who was from Strzyzow, Poland, got into difficulty in the water.

She was taken from the sea by the RNLI and transferred to Cork University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Stanislaw was also taken to hospital but he escaped serious injury in the tragic incident.
