KING Charles bemoaned the arrival of his second son Prince Harry, saying: "We are so disappointed, we wanted a girl", unheard recordings from Princess Diana have claimed.
Diana alleged he made the confession at Harry's christening and said that the then-Prince of Wales was admonished by her stepmother, who "snapped his head off" and told him he should "realise you are lucky to have a child".
The Princess of Wales recorded the audio tapes in the 1990s for her biographer Andrew Morton, who went on to publish the international bestselling book Diana: Her True Story, Snippets of the tapes, which Diana had secretly delivered to the author, were released yesterday just a day after the 26th anniversary of the princess's death in a car crash.
The full explosive content will feature in a new documentary, a follow-up to the 2017 production Diana: In Her Own Words. It will air in the US next year.
The princess claimed in one recording that, at Prince Harry's christening in 1984, Charles told her stepmother Raine Spencer who she referred to as Mummy: "We were so disappointed, we thought it would be a girl."
Diana said: "And Mummy snapped his head off and said, 'You should realise how lucky you are to have a child that's normal.
The tormented princess then claimed Charles reacted badly to the confrontation, saying: "Ever since that day, the shutters have come down.
"That's what he does when he gets somebody answering back at him."
