Cost is barrier to lower income families who want to help planet

THE majority of people in this country buy sustainable products and the same number view climate change as an “emergency”, a new survey has found. 

But the study has revealed that the cost of products is a barrier for those who want to do what they believe is the right thing when it comes to protecting the environment.

In what is seen as a significant development almost half of those asked said they are changing their behaviour to take positive action for the climate.

Another 64% of consumers said they purchase sustainable products sometimes or often, Deloitte’s latest Global Sustainability Survey found.

It asked respondents to self-assess their income group, which showed varying levels of purchasing power.
