'Worries' over development of head bleed injury babies

STEPHEN Donnelly yesterday said there are “worries” for the development of some babies who suffered head injuries when they were being delivered. 

The Minister for Health said a "small cluster" of the tots had been identified as suffering subgaleal haemorrhages at University Hospital Galway last year.

Hospital group Saolta has launched a review into the matter. It said when subgaleal haemorrhage of a newborn occurs in one of its facilities it is reported and logged with the National Incident Managing System.

In a statement, the HSE-established group said: "This is consistent with the HSE Incident Management Framework.
