Milk price cuts prove a pint

PLANS by supermarkets to cut the price of milk is proof that consumers are being ripped off, it was claimed yesterday.

In recent weeks there have been claims that the major retailers have been gouging the public and using inflation and war in Ukraine as an excuse to increase prices.

Labour's finance and enterprise spokesperson Ged Nash yesterday urged the Government to examine price caps across essential food items to help working people cope with the rapidly rising cost of living.

The call came after Lidl announced on Friday a 10c cut to its two-litre cartons of milk - the first since 2009.
