A MUM has spoken of her heartbreak after being told she may only have a year left following a devastating diagnosis.
Kelsie Jade McHugh, from Fitton Hill, Oldham, has been told by doctors she desperately needs a transplant.
The 30-year-old was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis as a baby, but says she had more health issues following an emergency c-section. After trying to conceive with her husband Danny for eight years – and just as the couple started making plans to begin IVF –Kelsie found out she was pregnant.
The former primary school teaching assistant went into early labour at 29 weeks and had to have an emergency c-section at 31 weeks when her baby’s heart stopped. She gave birth to her ‘miracle’ baby girl Renae on October 9, 2022, but within an hour suffered a heart attack and was rushed back to theatre.
Kelsie was given a scan and it was discovered her bladder had been torn during labour. She suffered from bowel poisoning, which then led to intestinal failure. She was able to go home after a few weeks.
