The works, aimed to reduce congestion and improve safety, will take place on the busy main road between Cheadle and Handforth. They are set to improve connectivity, with new cycle tracks, pathways, and controlled crossings implemented, and also shorten local journey times, including to Manchester Airport.
The stretch, between the M60 and A555, was regularly 'plagued by traffic bottlenecks, particularly at peak times. Works on the A34 Corridor Improvement Scheme, costing £33.6 million in total, are to be completed by spring 2027.
