BETHANY Lee broke both her thigh bones and had extensive internal injuries when the car she was in was hit from behind by a van in a terrifying motorway crash.
Bethany endured months of treatment and surgeries - even spending Christmas and her 21st birthday in hospital.
She said: "I broke both my femurs and basically everything inside me ruptured - so I had really long surgeries and lots of them. I was always in and out of the theatre while they were trying to fix everything." But even more devastating for Bethany was losing her dad, who died in the crash on the M60.
Peter Lee was the club photographer at Radcliffe Borough FC, and was among seven Radcliffe fans and staff members driving back from a Lancashire Cup game at Ashton Athletic when the crash involving a Ford Transit van, a silver Toyota Avensis people carrier and a black BMW 1 series, took place near junction 16 in Salford at about 10.25 pm on December 4, 2018. Almost five years on, however, Bethany has made an incredible recovery and wants to honor the NHS staff who never gave up on her dream to walk again. Not only is she raising money for them, she has changed careers to become one of them.
