Civic leaders hailed a 'hugely significant moment for the cycling movement in Manchester' as the announcement for 2024 was made yesterday.
The council said it was confident the accolade would 'act as a springboard for further investment and participation throughout the city!
Town hall leaders revealed in September a bid to ACES Europe had been submitted. It's a non-profit association based in Brussels which bestows sporting titles every year on capital cities across the world and in Europe, together with regions, island, communities and towns.
The council said the bid was the culmination of years of work including a hugely ambitious expansion of cycling in Manchester as well as the entire Greater Manchester region.
A delegation from ACES was welcomed to Manchester before the news the city had won the bid.
