THE winter rains will have leached many nutrients out of the soil by now and plants, like us, need more than water if they are to thrive food is vital, too.
There are three main elements that plants need for healthy growth - nitrogen, phosphates and potash.
Oh, it all sounds very technical, but the shortage can be remedied by applying a general fertiliser which contains all three, such as Growmore.
If you use an inorganic fertiliser, once it is diluted in soil water, it can go into action straight away when absorbed by the plant.
The downside is that it does nothing for soil bacteria, which are a vital part of soil health and healthy soil is key to thriving plant growth.
