FOLLOWING a consultation in the autumn of 2022, Manchester City Council has been granted new powers to enforce existing rules that previously only the police were able to enforce, meaning that drivers can now face fines of up to £70 for breaking the rules.
These rules, or Moving Traffic Contraventions, mean that traffic regulations such as stopping in a yellow box junction when the exit isn't clear or ignoring right or left turn bans are being monitored using ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Registration) cameras installed at key locations in the city.
Motorists who ignore the rules will be issued a Penalty Charge Notice of £70, reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days of being issued.Failure to pay within 28 days sees the fine increase to £105.
