OUTSIDE my window at the moment is a whirlpool of whirring starlings, jackdaws, pigeons and blackbirds, stripping my bird table clean of all the goodies I left out this morning

In between these larger birds, sparrows leap in and out to grab seed and anything else that might be left behind.

Those sparrows and dunnocks are still around later, like the people who tidy up after parties and festivals - the ones with litter pickers and black bin bags. These are some of the most useful people in the world, clear away the litter left by selfish people.

Sparrows make me laugh. They are lovely and lively birds, they look really cheeky when they bob in and out of our lives.
