Of course, Julie is not mentioning other mammals we see more regularly in our garden Mr and Mrs Rat and their offspring.
Back to the squirrels, they are amazingly resilient creatures and probably the only mammal many children see in their urban gardens. They are cheeky, lively and acrobatic, they steal food from bird feeders, often performing for onlookers without realising their Britain's Got Talent potential.
If that starts a future Attenborough or Strachan on their naturalist career, how can we complain? But we do.
