A SON broke down in tears as he denied murdering his dad by putting him in an 'MMA chokehold.
Joseph McGowan, 20, wept as he told the jury 'I loved him' when asked to describe his relationship with his father Darren McGowan.
He later denying using a 'classic chokehold... seen in MMA fights' as the pair drunkenly fought in the living room of the family home in Stockport in the early hours of April 30 this year.
Giving evidence at Manchester Crown Court, Joseph said he had put his father, 50, in a 'headlock' for 'less than 15 seconds' because he was 'scared' after the 'much stronger' man 'rugby tackled' him onto the sofa.
Moments later Darren collapsed on the living room floor of the home on Glebe Street, Offerton. He died three days later at Stepping Hill hospital after suffering 'unsurvivable brain damage, the murder trial at Manchester Crown Court heard.
