A JOGGER has been hailed an 'angel' by a triathlete whose life he saved.
Grandad Tony Pilkington, 60, was competing in the Salford Triathlon around MediaCity last month when he started to feel seriously ill.
After getting off his bike he was spotted by jogger Stephen, who had gone to watch some pals in the race before running home.
Stephen, 63, said: "I am a keen sportsman, and a friend of mine was doing the triathlon.
"I live in Salford so I decided to run home, and the route on the way home happened to follow the bike course so I was watching people race past. As I was running along I saw a chap who just got off his bike and was standing with his hands on his knees."
As he passed the junction of Broadway and Daniel Adamson Road, Stephen spotted Tony in clear discomfort.
Stephen said: "I shouted across to him, and he looked at me and said he doesn't feel very well so I crossed the road to meet him.
"I had some energy gels, and offered them to him, as I thought he had run out of fuel. But he said he felt nauseous, and he said he had chest pains and pointed to the centre of his chest.
"I tried to sit him down, but he was pacing around and just looked uncomfortable.
