AN UPDATE on Greater Manchester's Clean Air Zone (CAZ) proposals is due to be given after months of delay next week, the M.E.N. can reveal.
The proposals, to be set out publicly, will be revealed ahead of a planned meeting of the Greater Manchester Air Quality Administration Committee, which comprises of Greater Manchester's 10 town halls and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. The proposals include the preferred option for a non-charging plan.
The news comes as the mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, was pressed in Parliament to provide an update on the CAZ plan for the city-region.
Government ministers claimed during a debate that 'no action is being taken at the moment' by the mayor, with the new environment secretary, Steve Barclay, saying 'the task of finding clarity' in Mr Burnham's position on the issue is somewhat confusing! It is the responsibility, however, of Greater Manchester's 10 local authorities, not the mayor, to bring air quality within legal limits.
