The former South Africa international has left Gloucestershire to take the reins at the Red Rose following the departure of Glen Chapple at the end of last season.
Benkenstein has plenty of experience in the county game - and also of Lancashire, having worked as a batting consultant at the club on a short-term basis before taking charge at the Seat Unique Stadium in November 2021.
The 49-year-old, who was born in Zimbabwe, has also been head coach at Hampshire, who he led to promotion as Division Two champions and to two Vitality Blast Finals Days. He is currently an assistant coach at Pretoria Capitals in the South Africa T20 and previously held this position with the men’s national team.
“I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to become head coach of Lancashire. It is a county with a proud history and tradition and it’s an exciting time to be joining the club,” said Benkenstein.
