A HEARTBROKEN son relived the moment he ran outside his house after hearing a crash - before seeing his father lying horrifically injured in the road.
John Stephens sprinted into the street after hearing a loud 'bang' outside on September 20, 2019.
Tragically, he saw his dad John Richardson lying seriously hurt following the smash on Rishton Lane in Bolton. Mr Stephens cradled Mr Richardson, 59, in his arms and tried to save him.
The grandad-of-nine died a week later in hospital. A Greater Manchester Police investigation followed.
Detectives discovered Mr Richardson, known to friends as 'Richie, was knocked down by one of two cars which had been racing.
The vehicles were seen bumper-tobumper at speeds over 60mph, a court was told. The drivers were Daniel Salvin and Adam Ross.
Salvin was driving a Vauxhall Vectra, which hit Mr Richardson. Ross was driving a Volkswagen Golf.
Police said the pair were driving through residential areas in Bolton using the streets 'as their own personal race track' Both fled the scene following the crash, before Salvin's Vectra was found torched in Heywood Park View.
