Stadium row could force Reds to fold up

THE future of Salford Red Devils is in jeopardy due to a row over the ownership of its stadium, the club says.

Currently, the city council are 50-50 joint owners of the AJ Bell Stadium, its two training pitches and car park, with property giant Peel.

But the future of the stadium, home to Salford Red Devils and Sale Sharks, has been in doubt since co-owners Peel Holdings moved to sell their stake.

The council has tabled a plan to buy the property giant's share but opposition councillors are fiercely against the move. Conservative councillors, led by Coun Robin Garrido, succeeded in getting the plan 'called-in, the process by which major decisions are reviewed.
