'We heard a lot of banging and noise around 9.45pm'

POLICE have arrested a woman on suspicion of murder after a man died in what police have described as a 'targeted attack' Officers were called to the scene in Lower Falinge, Rochdale, at 10.50pm on Monday night following a 'disturbance' at a flat.

A man in his 50s was found unresponsive on the floor and later died, GMP said. A 48-year-old woman has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A white forensics screen was stretched across the entrance of a flat on a first floor walkway in Edington, with officers stationed outside as several police cars lined the road.

Detectives were seen going door to door as the shocked community woke to the scene.

Officers were also stationed outside a ground floor address opposite the block. A number of residents on the road reported hearing noise late on Monday, including 'banging' and 'arguing though some said it was such a common occurrence they took no notice.
