The incident has sparked controversy, with Opposition leaders questioning the police's account and renewing their demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into Armstrong's murder.
Police stated that Thiruvengadam was being escorted to Manali in North Chennai to recover weapons allegedly hidden in the area. During a halt near a lake, Thiruvengadam reportedly pushed the policemen escorting him and fled. He was later located in the 'Vegetarian Village' area within the Puzhal police station limits.
