HP claims no surplus, SC directs city to approach Yamuna Board

In the wake of a severe water crisis in Delhi, the Supreme Court has instructed the city's administration to request additional water from the Upper Yamuna River Board (UYRB). This directive came after Himachal Pradesh retracted its offer of surplus water.

The court's vacation bench, comprising Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Prasanna B Varale, mandated that the Delhi government file a plea with the UYRB by the evening, citing humanitarian concerns.

Residents, particularly women and children, have been observed enduring long treks and waiting in extensive lines for water, often returning with insufficient supplies for basic needs.

The national capital was in for a huge disappointment when the Himachal Pradesh government told the court it does not have surplus 136 cusecs of water, recanting an earlier statement.
