The relentless heatwave continued to make daily life challenging across large swathes of India on Sunday, with Najafgarh in southwest Delhi recording a blistering 47.8 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature in the country so far this season.
The severe heat has heavily impacted low-income households, who often lack adequate access to water and cooling systems, and has put immense strain on outdoor workers, forcing them to take frequent breaks to cope with the scorching conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported severe heatwave conditions in parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. Even hill stations in Himachal Pradesh typically refuges from the intense heat of the plains, were not spared from the oppressive temperatures.
In Himachal Pradesh, maximum temperatures soared to 36 degrees Celsius in Dharamshala, 44.4 degrees in Una, 42.4 degrees in Bilaspur, 36.6 degrees in Solan, and 40 degrees in Kangra.
