The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, denied former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren any relief, reprimanding him for "suppressing material facts" in his plea against his arrest in a money laundering case related to an alleged land scam.
A vacation bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and Satish Chandra Sharma permitted Soren's counsel, Kapil Sibal, to withdraw pleas for interim bail for Lok Sabha poll campaigning and against his arrest. The court signalled its intention to dismiss the pleas, noting Soren's failure to approach the court with clean hands.
The court highlighted that Soren did not disclose the April 4 order of the special PMLA court, which took cognizance of the prosecution complaint-a document equivalent to a chargesheet by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Additionally, Soren's regular bail petition was filed on April 15 and dismissed on May 13.
