The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The case is scheduled for hearing on August 20, according to the Apex Court’s website.
A bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, along with Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, will hear the matter titled “In Re: Alleged rape and murder incident of a trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata and related issue.”
Meanwhile, healthcare services across West Bengal and other parts of India remain severely affected as junior doctors continue their protest for the tenth consecutive day. The agitation has led to the closure of outpatient departments (OPDs) in many staterun hospitals.
