As before, the only destination for transporting onions by rail is the National Capital Region (NCR).
This follows delays in transportation by road from Nashik in the onion belt to wholesale markets in NCR, with the consequent low supply keeping retail prices high.
If the same quality of onions had been supplied to mandis much earlier, the prices would have been stabilized, one of the persons said.
