This agreement includes a significant raise for employees and a review of their collective bargaining agreement.
The dispute began in late May when workers affiliated with the mining union took issue with the company’s annual profit distribution for 2023. Protesting the decision, they blockaded the facility, bringing all operations to a halt. This caused significant disruption, impacting not just ArcelorMittal’s production but also its suppliers and their workers.
The new settlement, however, appears to have addressed the concerns raised by the union. Workers will receive an 8% pay increase, retroactive to an earlier date. Additionally, they will benefit from a one-time stimulus payment of 60,000 pesos (approximately $3,336) per worker and receive food vouchers. Back pay is also included in the agreement.
