Sources within the Indian defence establishment have confirmed that a delegation from France, including officials from their Directorate General of Armament responsible for overseeing the sale of Rafale jets, is presently in New Delhi for these discussions. On the Indian side, representatives from the Directorate General of Acquisition under the Ministry of Defence, along with military officers from the user side, are participating in these government-to-government talks.
The anticipated scope of this project is significant, with estimates placing its value at over Rs 50,000 crore. This deal aims to bolster India's fleet with additional advanced aircraft, increasing the total number of Rafales in the Indian inventory to 62, complementing the existing 36 in the Indian Air Force fleet. These aircraft are designated for operations from the Indian Navy's aircraft carriers, including the INS Vikramaditya and the upcoming INS Vikrant.
