Specifically, the purchase tax on cigarettes has been raised from 270 percent plus 444.03 shekels (USD 122) per thousand cigarettes, with a minimum of 850.62 shekels (USD 235) per thousand cigarettes, to 270 percent plus 524.50 shekels (USD 145) per thousand cigarettes, with a minimum of 930 shekels (USD 258) per thousand cigarettes. This substantial increase aims to make cigarettes less affordable and less accessible to consumers, thereby reducing tobacco consumption.
