However, a recent trend reveals a notable increase in redemptions, as investors opt to book profits while markets are at their peak. This shift is resulting in a narrowing gap between investments and redemptions, reflecting a more cautious sentiment among investors amid high market valuations.
According to the latest monthly data report from Axis Mutual Funds, the total Assets Under Management (AUM) for mutual funds reached an impressive Rs 64,96,653 crore in July 2024. This represents a substantial 40 percent increase compared to the AUM of Rs 46,37,564 crore recorded in July 2023. The sharp rise in AUM indicates a strong inflow of investments into mutual funds over the past year, driven primarily by the robust performance of Indian stock markets.
Despite this growth in assets, the report highlights a significant surge in redemptions. In July 2023, redemptions amounted to Rs 18,28,851 crore. This figure spiked by 60.68 percent to Rs 29,38,613 crore in July 2024. The surge in redemptions is attributed to investors’ strategic decision to capitalize on the current market peak, reflecting a tendency to secure profits amid high market valuations.
