ASSESSING NITYANAND RAI'S PERFORMANCE AS UJIARPUR'S MP

The Ujiarpur Lok Sabha seat of Bihar may be a new constituency, but it always remains a focal point of discussion.
ASSESSING NITYANAND RAI'S PERFORMANCE AS UJIARPUR'S MP

Before 2008, Ujiarpur did not even have a legislative assembly seat. Since the inception of this seat, there has been competition between the RJD and JD(U). However, in the last two elections, the BJP has gained control of this seat.

The electoral dynamics in the Ujiarpur parliamentary constituency are always under discussion throughout the year, making it a politically active area. Currently, the BJP's prominent leader Nityanand Rai represents this seat in the Parliament.

Nityanand Rai, a close associate of Amit Shah, began his political journey in 1981 as a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

In the 2000 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, he won from Hajipur in his first attempt. He continued to win four consecutive assembly elections from Hajipur. In 1990, during Lal Krishna Advani's Rath Yatra in Bihar, which was supposed to reach Hajipur, the then Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav tried to stop it. Nityanand Rai, organizing a mass gathering, garnered enough support to prevent the government from stopping Advani's chariot in Hajipur, which is considered the beginning of his political prominence.

Nityanand Rai has been elected twice consecutively as a Member of Parliament in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. After 2019, this seat gained more recognition as Nityanand Rai, who won it from 2014 to 2019, has emerged as a prominent face of the BJP in Bihar politics.

Despite its existence for three election cycles, development progress in the Ujiarpur constituency has been relatively slow. Although people may have expectations from their Members of Parliament, the region still faces incomplete development projects. During elections, caste considerations often overshadow developmental agendas, causing issues to persist for the past 15 years.
