Bengal Police tells NIA to submit proof of attack in Bhupatinagar

The West Bengal Police today issued summons to the officers of the National Investigation Agency who were attacked while raiding the houses of Trinamool Congress leaders in Bhupatinagar in Purba Medinipur district in connection with a 2022 bomb blast case which had left three people dead.

Though the NIA had lodged a FIR following the incident, police sources said that the summons were issued on the basis of a counter-FIR on a complaint by some villagers, accusing the NIA team of theft and outraging the modesty of women.

Though the NIA on Tuesday moved the Calcutta High Court seeking the quashing of the FIR against its officials and to seek interim protection from coercive action by the West Bengal Police, a notice has also been sent to the officer who was injured in the incident. He has been asked to produce the medical report by April 11. Bengal Police has also asked NIA officers to bring the car with them which was allegedly vandalised, for forensic test. Family members of the Trinamool Congress leaders who were arrested had accused the NIA of bringing a damaged car to "stage the drama". This apart, three villagers have also been summoned for questioning in connection with the attack.
