BMW 'killer' on run as father gets bail

More than 24 hours after the Worli hit-and-run horror unfolded, the Mumbai police have been unable to trace the accused in the case, Mihir Shah, 24.

He is reportedly in hiding, so that no alcohol can be detected in his blood in the event of his surrender or being caught. The chances of alcohol being detected diminish the longer he stays out of the clutches of law.  

Sources said the Borivli resident had consumed four bottles of beer at the Global Tapas Bar on Juhu Tara Road before heading to Marine Drive with the family driver in a BMW. As the duo was returning, the BMW collided with the rear of a scooter at Worli. The woman riding pillion, Kaveri Nakhwa, 45, was flung off by the impact while her saree got caught under the front wheel of the car, and her husband Pradeep, 50, who was driving, found himself on the bonnet of the speeding four-wheeler. For almost two kilometres, Mihir Shah dragged the couple along, before coming to a halt. 

While Mihir is still absconding, his father Rajesh Shah, a member of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, was granted bail by a court which observed that the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was not applicable to him.
