It will “pay tribute to all those who suffered and fought against the gross abuse of power during Emergency and recommit the people of India to not support in any manner such gross abuse of power in future”.
During the recent Special Session of Parliament, which was also the first of the 18th Lok Sabha, the government had made special mention of Emergency on its 50th anniversary. This was as much to commiserate which those who suffered due to the clamp down on civil liberties during this period, as to target the Congress which had managed to double its tally in the Lok Sabha.
