The order came in response to a six-year-old application filed by a Worli-based resident, alleging that the construction was causing significant pollution and disrupting his daily life.
The application, submitted by Dileep Nevatia in 2017, was dismissed as the coastal road had become fully operational, but the order was issued as a preventive measure. Nevatia had filed the application against the Maharashtra Government, Maharashtra the Pollution Control Board (MPCB), and the contractors responsible for the project. The NGT, however, dismissed it on the grounds that the construction is already complete, rendering any action moot.
