District Collector Suhas Diwase appealed to government officials, employees, college teachers, students, and others to set an example by wearing helmets.While speaking at a District Road Safety Committee meeting, he announced that from Dec 1, action would be taken against those entering government offices without helmets or violating traffic rules.Diwase also declared that it is now mandatory for officers and employees working in any government or semi-government offices in Pune district to wear helmets while riding two-wheelers.Anti-helmet group Helmet Sakti Virodhi Kruti Samiti has opposed the move. The group, led by Balasaheb Runwal, argued that helmets are uncomfortable and can lead to issues like hair loss and neck pain.Meanwhile, Assistant Road Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale told The Free Press Journal, "We have notified all types of government offices in the city. Our teams will directly take action and impose a fine on government employees, just like they do with common people if they are found violating traffic norms."
