As heavy rains lash Pune, resulting in at least four fatalities from rain-related incidents on Thursday, the officials of two municipal corporations- the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and different other bodies, including the Army and the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), have been working round-the-clock to handle the disaster.
The PMC's Fire Department has been on high alert since early morning as heavy rainfall has submerged the entire city, causing significant disruption.
The intense rains have damaged vehicles and disrupted traffic in various parts of Pune.
The Fire Department has been actively clearing fallen trees and waterlogging at multiple locations and has carried out rescue operations in slum and low-lying areas, transporting people to safer places.
Speaking to The Free Press Journal, a Fire Department official reported that at least 400 rescue operations have been carried out. The team has cleared 18 waterlogging spots and removed 65 fallen trees from PMC areas.
The heavy rains have affected areas including Khadakwasla, Dhayari, Aundh, Kothrud, Warje, Shivajinagar, Katraj, Balewadi and Koregaon Park.
