The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has initiated a suo motu investigation into the alarming reports of alleged Wadala salt pan land grabbing as well as illegal debris dumping on them. The move comes following the publication of a news article in an English daily, which has sparked concerns among locals and environmental activists.
The Commission has categorized the issue as a violation of human rights under section 12 of The Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, prompting it to take up the matter on its own accord.
