Six-year trial in sensational murder of woman cop ends

The final arguments in the sensational murder case of cop Ashwini Bidre got over last week after six years of trial, with special public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat submitting a 23-page argument.

The verdict for the accused – dismissed senior inspector Abhay Kurundkar, Raju Patil, Kundan Bhandari and Mahesh Phalanikar – is expected soon.

Posted with the Protection of Civil Rights Unit in Konkan Bhavan, Belapur, Bidre, a resident of Kalamboli, was missing since April 15, 2016, and a missing case was registered on July 14 the same year.

The trial, which brought much infamy to the Maharashtra police, began on November 30, 2018, at the Alibag District Court and later the proceedings started at the newly-formed Panvel session court.
