The 'mourning bears' have remained in the memory of many people to this day. One such bear that has been in the same family since 1912 is to be sold at Plymouth Auction Rooms next month, with a remarkable story.
Auctioneer Paul Keen explained the background to the unusual teddies. He said: "The black Steiff was a special order made by the German bear maker especially for the UK with only 494 bears produced in five sizes.
