Burns hits lucky 13 in King Billy's pulsating victory

PLYMOUTH & District Friday Darts League champions Tradesmans A suffered a 7-6 defeat in a pulsating match-up with King Billy A, which saw Kieran Burns claim 13 tons for the victors.

The two-point team game that turned out to be crucial in the destination of the win went to the visitors from Devonport with Burns putting his first of two 180s onto the scoreboard in the victory.

The title holders came roaring back with a 38-dart 1001 leg from Mike O’Brien, Andy Nation and Paul Nash (26.34).

The score was 3-1 before the doubles phase put Tradesmans 4-3 up; ending with Andy Nation and partner Andrew Waters (30.33) best game for the week - and season - as they put together a 1001 leg in just 33 darts.

Nation finished that game with a fine 116 checkout, which was one of 11 tons he scored overall during the entertaining contest.

However, that finish wasn’t the best of the match as Nick Dodd opened the clean sweep pairs section with a checkout of 117 to claim the biggest of the season so far.

Three more King Billy wins in the individual phase put them on the brink of victory; sandwiched in the middle of that run was Kieran Burns’ 35-dart win before winning one of the last three to give them the success.

That defeat allowed Indian Inn to take over at the top after a 10-3 over Pennycross that saw Robbie Bisgrove hit 11-ton-plusses.

Team-mate Nick Bromley also showed a glimpse of magic with a fine 104 three-dart combination outshot in his individual success.

Simon Washington’s 180 helped decide the final tie of a close game between local rivals Tradesmans B and Octagon with the Washington win giving his team a 7-6 success.
