PLYMOUTH MP Johnny Mercer urged nuclear test veterans to sue the Ministry of Defence (MOD) after he was presented with evidence showing their medical records are being unlawfully withheld.
The Tory cabinet minister was shown evidence to prove bloody testing was carried out on servicemen who took part in nuclear weapons tests in the 1950s and 60s.
According to The Mirror, the father of campaigner, Alan Owen, witnessed 24 nuclear bomb blasts in 78 days, and later died aged just 52.
During the summer, Alan – son of James – showed MP Johnny Mercer the documents but was told the minister could do nothing to help.
The veterans are now crowdfunding to pay for legal action. Alan explained to Mr Mercer that without the vital information, veterans weren’t getting the correct medical treatment today.
Alan claims Mr Mercer than urged him to start a ‘legal case against the MoD’. Alan said: “I told him that not having this information meant veterans weren’t getting the right medical treatment today, on his watch.
